HISTORY LESSON
I don't know if this is all true, but it's interesting.
LIFE IN THE 1500'S
The next time you are washing your hands and complain because the water temperature isn't just how you like it,think about how things used to be.Here are some facts about the 1500s:
Most people got married in June because they took their yearlybath in May, and still smelled pretty good by June. However, they were starting to smell, so brides carried a bouquetof flowers to hide the body odor.
Hence the custom today of carrying a bouquet whengetting married.
Baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water. The man of the househad the privilege of the nice clean water, then allthe other sons and men, then the women and finally the children. Last of all the babies. By then the water was so dirtyyou could actually lose someone in it. Hence the saying, "Don't throw the baby out with the bath water."
Houses had thatched roofs-thick straw-piled high, with no wood underneath. It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the cats and other small animals (mice, bugs) lived in the roof. When it rained it became slippery and sometimes the animals would slip and fall off the roof.Hence the saying "It's raining cats and dogs."
There was nothing to stop things from falling into the house. This posed a real problem in the bedroom where bugs and other droppings could mess up your nice clean bed. Hence, a bed with big posts and a sheet hung overthe top afforded some protection. That's how canopy beds came into existence.
The floor was dirt. Only the wealthy had something otherthan dirt. Hence the saying "dirt poor." The wealthy had slate floors that would get slipperyin the winter when wet , so they spread thresh (straw) on the floor to help keep their footing. As the winter wore on,they added more thresh until, when you opened the door,it would all start slipping outside. A piece of wood was placed in the entranceway.Hence the saying a "threshhold."
In those old days, they cooked in the kitchen with a big kettle thatalways hung over the fire. Every day they lit the fireand added things to the pot. They ate mostly vegetables and did not get much meat. They would eatthe stew for dinner, leaving leftovers in the pot to get cold overnightand then start over the next day. Sometimes stew had food in itthat had been there for quite a while. Hence the rhyme,"Peas porridge hot, peas porridge cold, peas porridge in the pot nine days old."
Sometimes they could obtain pork, which made them feel quite special. When visitors came over, they would hang up their bacon to show off.. It was a sign of wealth that a man could "bring home the bacon." They would cut off a little to share with guests and would all sit around and "chew the fat."
Those with money had plates made of pewter. Food with high acid contentcaused some of the lead to leach onto the food, causing lead poisoning death. This happened most often with tomatoes, so for the next 400 yearsor so, tomatoes were considered poisonous.Bread was divided according to status. Workers got the burnt bottom of the loaf, the family got the middle, and guests got the top, or "upper crust."
Lead cups were used to drink ale or whisky. The combination would sometimes knockthe imbibers out for a couple of days. Someone walking along the road would take them for deadand prepare them for burial. They were laid out on the kitchen table for a couple of daysand the family would gather around and eat and drinkand wait and see if they would wake up.Hence the custom of holding a "wake."
England is old and small and the local folks started running out ofplaces to bury people. So they would dig up coffinsand would take the bones to a "bone-house" and reuse the grave. When reopening these coffins, one out of twenty-five coffins were found to have scratch markson the inside, and they realized they had been burying people alive. So they would tie a string on the wrist of the corpse, lead it through the coffin and up through the groundand tie it to a bell. Someone would have to sit out in the graveyard all night (the "graveyard shift") to listen for the bell;thus, someone could be "saved by the bell" or was considereda "dead ringer."
And that's the truth... maybe.

So sad ....
A breached well has been pouring oil into the Gulf of Mexico for two months now. Nonstop. According to the Associated Press, as much as 125 million gallons may have flowed so far.

I dont speak or read German!
Man, its times like these I wish Dirk and I were BFF's .... I have to send a wire to Germany and my customer sent me the invoice with the merchants wiring instructions, the only problem is the whole thing is in GERMAN!
I can recognize some numbers and a few other things, but not enough to send money from our bank to another country! LORD HELP ME!
Cant wait for this day to be over!

Forbes Names it's 100 Most Powerful

Here are just the top 10 .... go to http://www.forbes.com/ to see the whole list. (This is what they make in just a year!!)
1. Oprah Winfrey 315 Million
2. Beyonce Knowles 87 Million
3. James Cameron 210 Million
4. Lady Ga Ga 62 Million
5. Tiger Woods 105 Million
6. Brittany Spears 64 Million
7. U2 130 Million
8. Sandra Bullock 56 Million
9. Johnny Depp 75 Million
10. Madonna 58 Million
Angelina Jolie went from the No 1 spot last year all the way down to No 18, and I am supprised to see that Lady Ga Ga is so high up there (even tho I do love her), but she better stop pulling little stunts like she did at the Yankees game. Also, Leonardo DiCaprio aka my husband was number 71. Not the best, but at least he made the list.
Todays a sad day ..... Should be a happy one .....
Eclipse comes out tonight at Midnight and I have not finished the book (still have about 1/2 to go)..... and I REFUSE to see the movie until I finish the book. So i better get in my book worm mode and get to reading. I wish I had a way to read the book on my work computer! ha ha (that's terrible)

Rated-R's OUT

On last nights episode of The Bacherlotte, Ali finds out that Justin "Rated-R" has another girlfriend and confronts him about it.
Jessie revealed Justin had a girlfriend during a phone call to Ali in Toronto, since the girl was sitting right next to her! And, conveniently, "other woman" Jessica was put on the phone.
"Me and Justin have been dating for the past two years now. He assured me that he would come back and we would be together, and finally get our plans together to get married," Jessica told Ali. Jessica also found out that Ali wasn't the only one getting conned.
"A couple days after he left, I found out he had a girlfriend for the past two months," Jessica said. "I don't know what else to say Ali, I'm sorry."
The sad part is, Justin could not even deny it. GLAD TO SEE HIM GO!!
Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green Are Married!

TMZ.com first reported the couple tied the knot at the Four Seasons on the Big Island of Hawaii on June 24th.
